Over the past decade there has been a trend in rugby to move away from acronyms to simpler branding:
IRFU -> Irish Rugby
RFU -> England Rugby
IRB -> World Rugby
The reason behind all of those separate rebranding is to reach people who aren’t familiar with rugby acronyms, and help the game to grow beyond the traditional fan base.
We are going to follow suit with a minor tweak of our brand on social media, referring to the club as “Sligo Rugby”, and using the handle “@SligoRugby” on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. We’ll also be using the SligoRugby.ie domain.
This change will help us to grow our audience and reach more people.
