Women’s Senior League vs Galwegians

Sligo Senior Women’s XV travelled to Galway on Sunday to take on Galwegians 2nd XV in the Connacht Senior League.

The teams eventually shared the spoils in a very well contested affair, finishing 17-17.

Sligo started well, and their efforts were rewarded when scrum-half Laura McIntyre tapped a quick penalty to touch down for the opening score.

Sophie Kinghan doubled the lead soon after when she outpaced the home defence to run on to a well placed kick from Cliodhna O’ Sullivan. Galwegians responded with a try before Emma Cox crossed for Sligo’s third score, following dominant play from the forwards. Emma duly converted her try, with a fantastic effort.

The second half saw the host pile on the pressure, to eventually level the game with five minutes remaining. Sligo finished as they started, in the opposition’s half but could not manufacture a winning score.

A well deserved draw sees the women get their league campaign back on track, with a home tie against University Galway to come this weekend.
